Went to Longton to visit Dad:
He was quite chatty but didn't realise that someone has been to see him everyday. He said when he gets a phone he will be able to ask us for what he needs before we visit.
I did tell him that Frank Pearson had died, he seemed shocked but didn't get upset. We had holidays together with Frank and his wife Doreen many years ago. Dad and Mum had stayed friends with them for years. Also they invited us all (8 of us) for Sunday Dinner quite a few times with a piano sing a long after. Great times. Dad didn't realise Frank was 82 he thought he was a lot younger than him. Told him Elaine and Janet are representing The Horton's.F
Further news - after visiting Dad me and Colin drove down Marsh Lane to take a photo of Lodge Cottage where Dad used to live but there is a massive hedge in front. Just about to leave and a couple came out walking a dog. So I asked if they lived at number 3 and told them that my Dad used to live there from 1940 up to 1956. The couple are called Ken and Catherine and said if next time we are passing with Dad he can come in to look around. He has scrapbooks of how the house looked when he took it over 28 years ago but it was in a bad state. He has added 20ft of extension on the end and when they took the carpet off the stairs they collapsed. He found a massive piece of concrete pillar when he tried to add a central staircase, it was the end of a jetty when the river used to come past the house. Fascinating stuff.
Total 5.5 miles. Completed 191.5 miles - we are now in Combe Martin Beach, Devon.
